After the war ended, the mothers of Lebensborn children knew the reaction to them was not going to be good, and as such, they scrambled away as fast as possible, leaving their child, and often their country, behind. Those who were still pregnant or nursing left at the very first chance they had, leaving their child to their fate. Those who did not leave were put into work camps, or mental wards.
